Many descendants are researching their Line, and a few researchers are doing major projects that will benefit multiple Lines.

If you need a look-up in our database, see the section about the Digital Library and the Database. If you have hit a brick wall, or are new to genealogy, please contact us for help.

This section covers the major research projects currently in process. Small projects are constantly being done, and are too numerous to list. Contact us for further information, or to avoid duplication of effort.

The major research projects currently in process are:

Digital Library and Database
The Times, London
Ireland Civil Registration Records
Parish Registers: Ireland
Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin, Ireland

Digital Library and the Database

A Database has been created of all events found for our surnames. This database is available for searching via an email inquiry.

A Digital Library of documents has also been established. All documents and photographs are being scanned, indexed, and transcribed. Digital images of documents are available via email.

The Times, London

Several years ago a project was done for The Times, London, using the Palmer Index and extracting all Meates, printing the articles from the microfilms of the newspapers, and transcribing them.

With the release of the on-line The Times Digital Archive, where all the newspapers are scanned and indexed utilizing OCR technology, a new project commenced. This new project involved searching for the surnames Meates, Meats, and Meautys, and downloading a digital image of the relevant article. Over 370 articles were found. These articles are being indexed and transcribed, and then they will be released. The surnames Mate and Mates will be done in the next phase of the project.

Ireland Civil Registration Records

Ireland Civil Registration commenced on April 1, 1845 for non-Catholic marriages, and on January 1, 1864 for all births, marriages, and deaths. Prior to 1864, most churches kept records of births, marriage and deaths.

The project involves extracting all Meates, Mates, and variant entries from Civil Registration indexes, and ordering all certificates. Certificate ordering is continuing, and it will take several years.

Parish Registers: Ireland

This project started July 4, 2002 and involves systematically reading every parish entry in selected Church of Ireland Parishes for specified years. A location analysis of Meates/Mates sightenings was utilized to select the Parishes and years. The project began with with the parishes of St. Peter's, St. Catherine's, St. Luke's, and St. Mary's in Dublin. These parish registers are held in Dublin, Ireland. An example of results is that in one month approximately 24,200 parish register entries were read, and 22 Meates events were found. This project is temporarily suspended.

Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin, Ireland

Part I of this project is completed, which was the extraction of all Meates and variant entries from the index to Mount Jerome Cemetary burials. Part II involves reading the register of burials and the register of Perpertuties for additional information, and unindexed events. Phase III involves photographing all burial markers/plots at Mount Jerome Cemetery, and is complete. Part II of this project is temporarily on hold due to other commitments.
